Chapter One
"You killed them all?" The Captain growled. "I demanded a prisoner, Laertes. I wanted at least one of those freaks in our hands."
Laertes sat in a chair, his head between his hands. His hair was disheveled, sticking to the sweat of his neck in thick black clumps. He was tense, his hackles raised like a wolf on the defensive. Being scolded was exceptionally difficult for the Scribe to endure.
"And what do you bring back instead?" The Captain continued. His voice steadily rose. He clutched crumpled leaflets in his hands. "Worthless scrolls!" He threw them upon a wooden table. They scattered, unraveling. "Such documents mean no
