Caged Bird

It is a freedom, they say
To be able to think for oneself
To become a revolutionary
To define human ability with each stroke of the brush
They see me as a genius
But I am lost

They flock to me like squabbling birds
Fussing over my latest invention
Marveling at its beauty
Praising my brilliance
Questioning the possibility of such wonders

But I am forgotten in the sea of trends

They are always interested in what is here
But I wonder, what is there?
None can fathom my talent!
Behold the power of my innovations!
Famous paintings,
Secret codes,
Great machines of war!

It is all amazement to them, but they do not see!
They do not comprehend!

How can they understand
That although I do so much,
Although I see what others do not,
Although I am the very definition of my time,
That I am stranded amongst the ideas
So trapped
So lost
So confused

I have done great things
But I would be so much greater
If I were not so constricted

I am a caged bird
I yearn to be freed from my fetters
But I am bonded
Confined to the boundaries of my time

I am blessed with the ability to see,
But will forever lack the ability to behold.

I am forsaken, a prisoner of my own mind.
A poem about Leonardo Da Vinci. We see him as a genius, perhaps the smartest and most influential person in our history, but there is so much more to him. Many fail to see that.

this is such a unique view on DaVinci, I never thought of him that way.... I love this poem, it really makes you think :) and the repetition in it is wonderful xD
